CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A Wednesday traffic stop in Clinton County revealed more than 5 pounds of suspected meth with a street value estimated at $275,000.

Frankfort Police Department (FPD) Chief Troy Bacon says FPD and the Interstate Criminal Enforcement Task Force stopped a car driven by 41-year-old Javier Calyeca for following a semi too closely on I-65.

Chief Bacon says officers found signs of criminal activity when they pulled Calyeca over, and called task force members for backup, including a Boone County K-9 officer to sniff the vehicle. The K-9 officer indicated the presence of narcotics in the car and officers found illegal prescription medications inside.

“Following the execution of a search warrant on the vehicle, 5.75 pounds of a purple gray powder suspected to be methamphetamine was found in a large plastic bag. With the estimated street value of $275,000, all the law enforcement agencies involved were pleased to take such a significant amount of this dangerous drug out of circulation,” Bacon said.

Calyeca was arrested and booked into the Clinton County Jail on several drug-related charges. A federal indictment is pending as a result of the investigation.

The Interstate Criminal Enforcement Task Force includes officers from the Frankfort Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Lebanon Police Department.
