LAFAYETTE, Ind (WLFI) - A Purdue student accused of trying to steal one of the '"Dog Days of Summer" statues pleaded guilty to criminal mischief.
A Tippecanoe County judge sentenced 20-year-old Adam Sachs to complete one year on probation and 40 hours of road crew.
Sachs was arrested In May after a police officer spotted him trying to steal a dog sculpture at the intersection of Grant and Northwestern.
The public artworks were installed around Lafayette and West Lafayette in May. The statues were removed in July after some were stolen and others were damaged.
25 dog statues were auctioned off in October. Proceeds benefited the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette.
