LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette Police are trying to solve a hit and run cold case. Officers have surveillance pictures of the people allegedly at fault.
Police said the woman in the pictures crashed a red Pontiac into a support beam at the Village Pantry on 4th Street in Lafayette on July 31. The man riding with her was inside the store at the time of the hit-and-run. Police said the couple quickly took off after the accident happened.
Lafayette Police Technician Matt Devine said there are three main reasons why people run: they are intoxicated; their license is suspended; or there is an outstanding warrant for their arrest.
"It is a Class C misdemeanor to leave the scene of a property damage crash,” said Lafayette Police Technician Matt Devine. “If they just stick around, if there are no other problems, then information gets exchanged and everyone is on their way."
Devine said in 2009 there were 412 reported hit and run crashes. So far in 2010 there have been 380.
If you know who either of these two people are, or have any information about the crash call Lafayette Police. The phone number is (765) 807-1200.
