LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A former Lafayette fugitive is in police custody in Chicago.
Justin Cook was arrested by Chicago Police Monday, and taken to the Cook County jail, according to Lafayette Police Detective Matt Devine.
Lafayette Police issued a warrant for Cook's arrest last year for a charge of Felon in Possession of a Handgun, Devine said. The charges stem from a dispute in May 2009, when shots were fired at the Country View Estates apartment complex in Lafayette.
Chicago Police encountered Cook in a traffic stop about three weeks ago, Devine said. Cook gave police an alias and he was later released.
Devine said Chicago Police officers later realized it was Cook when they processed his fingerprints. He said it's currently unknown how the Chicago Police Department found Cook again and arrested him.
