KOKOMO, Ind. (WLFI) - Indiana State Police have a man in custody who fled from a trooper during a traffic stop.

Around 2:30 Friday morning, Indiana State Police Trooper Adam Moor pulled over an SUV driven by 29-year-old Timothy Nicholas, Jr., near Home and Boulevard streets in Kokomo.

Moor was stopping the GMC for traveling 59 miles per hour in a 40-miles-per-hour zone.

When Moor activated the lights on top of his car, Nicholas did not stop, leading Moor on a roughly three-minute pursuit, and at times, hitting speeds near 100 miles per hour.

Indiana State Police say the pursuit ended at a yard where Nicholas had stopped his car and run away.

Nicholas was caught a couple of minutes later when officers from the Howard County Sheriff’s Office used a police dog to track him.

Investigators discovered Nicholas was over the .08 blood alcohol concentration limit when he was tested with a breathalyzer. Officers also say they found a bit of marijuana in the SUV.

Nicholas was booked into the Howard County Jail on four felony charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, driving a vehicle after having been deemed a habitual traffic violator, operating a vehicle while intoxicated after having a previous conviction within five years, and possession of marijuana with a prior conviction.

He also faces two misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.
