JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Jasper County Sheriff's Department is receiving $2.2 million for its work in a drug raid last October.
The Federal Department of Justice is giving the money as part of the Equitable Sharing Program.
The program gives money back to law enforcement agencies that apprehend either cash or other property.
Along with Jasper County Sheriff's receiving this money, the Remington Police Department received $151,000 and Indiana State Police received $30,000.
United States Attorney David Capp said that over the past ten years, the program has given back more than 17 million dollars just in northern Indiana.
Capp said that shows how closely the police forces work together.
“This Equitable Sharing Program is designed to foster cooperation. I think it speaks volumes of the excellent cooperative efforts of our local law enforcements throughout the state of Indiana,” said Capp.
The Jasper County Sheriff's Department plans to use the money to purchase vehicles and computer upgrades.
