LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Police say an argument about a homeless man's status as a convicted sex offender leads to battery and strangulation charges.

Lafayette police say the homeless man, 25-year-old Christopher Jones, got into an argument on July 26 with a man who had been letting him stay at his apartment on Union Street.

Jones admitted to officers he became enraged when the man told another acquaintance that Jones was a convicted sex offender. Jones then started punching him in the face.

Investigators said Jones admitted to kicking and stomping on the acquaintance's head even after the man was knocked unconscious.

According to court documents, Jones was convicted on 2 counts of sodomy of a person under 14 in Missouri and was released from prison last year.

He remains in the Tippecanoe County Jail on bond.
