LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette gas station was robbed of cash and merchandise early Thursday morning.

The robbery happened at the Gas America station located on Sagamore Parkway, north of State Road 26.

Lieutenant Tom Davidson with the Lafayette Police Department said the suspect may have been armed, citing the clerk noticed what appeared to be the handle of a handgun on the suspect. The robbery was reported at 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators described the suspect as a white male in his mid 30s, around 5 feet 5 inches tall with a stocky build. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket, dark jeans and a dark stocking cap. It is believed the suspect ran north on foot. Police said the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money and merchandise.

Anyone with information on what happened should contact Lafayette police at (765) 807-1200 or the anonymous WE TIP hotline at 1(800) 78-CRIME.
