Former Purdue football player sentenced for synthetic drugs, probation violations

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Former Purdue football player DeWayne Beckford was sentenced Thursday to almost 5 years of suspended jail time for possessing a synthetic drug and probation violations. The punishment comes from cases in separate courts.
Tippecanoe County Prosecutor Pat Harrington said in Superior Court 4, Beckford received 2 years of suspended jail time, 2 years with a community correction service, and 10 days of community service for possession of drug paraphernalia with a prior conviction and possession of a synthetic drug.
In Superior Court 6, Harrington said Beckford was sentenced to 6 months of community corrections and an extra year of supervised probation after violating probation multiple times.
Beckford was a starting linebacker for the Purdue football team until former head coach Danny Hope dismissed him from the team last August.
