TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A West Lafayette man is sentenced to five years in prison after he stole a credit card from a car and bought items at Meijer.

Jonathan Burton, 24, pleaded guilty to a count of forgery and two counts of fraud.

Tippecanoe County Prosecutor Pat Harrington said back in June, Burton and an accomplice broke into several cars late at night and made purchases at several area stores with any credit cards they found.  Police identified Burton from surveillance video where the purchases were made.

Harrington said Burton used the stolen cards at Meijer, Gordman's and the Walmart on Veterans Memorial Parkway.

He was sentenced to five years in prison and one year of probation.
