Excise police arrest 126 people in West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Indiana State Excise Police were patrolling West Lafayette on the weekend of Purdue Football's season opener. In all, 126 people were arrested, 37 tickets were handed out, and eight warnings. Plus, one grocery store was cited for selling alcohol to minors.

The grocery store in question is the Payless on Sagamore Parkway in West Lafayette. It was sited for two counts of selling alcohol to minors.

The patrols started Thursday. They arrested 19 minors for illegal consumption and transportation of alcohol. Nine adults were cited for helping minors get alcohol.

On Friday, 64 minors were arrested for illegal consumption and transportation of alcohol. The same day, 26 adults were arrested in helping minors get alcohol.

Excise officers were in West Lafayette as part of their Intensified College Enforcement (ICE) initiative, which puts extra officers on patrol around six college campuses: Ball State University, Butler University, University of Notre Dame, Purdue University, Indiana University-Bloomington and Indiana State University.
