EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Federal prosecutors have filed child pornography possession charges against a man who until recently was a top leader with the Boy Scouts in southwestern Indiana.
Prosecutors announced the charges Tuesday against 33-year-old Ryan Bieler of Jasper. Bieler was arrested earlier this month, and the Boy Scouts' Buffalo Trace Council in Evansville says it fired him from his job as a senior district executive once it learned about the allegations.
Court documents say Bieler bought DVDs and downloaded Internet videos of boys and girls engaging in various sexual activity.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett says the Boy Scouts council is cooperating fully with investigators. WFIE-TV reports the scouts group says Bieler has been permanently barred.
A message seeking comment from Bieler's defense attorney wasn't immediately returned.
