E. Indiana man fighting confession in parents' deaths

WINCHESTER, Ind. (AP) - The state Supreme Court will decide whether an eastern Indiana man's confession that he fatally shot his father and helped his ailing mother overdose on medication can be used in his trial.
Murder and assisting suicide charges have been pending against 36-year-old Brian Hartman since his arrest for the February 2010 deaths of his parents at their rural Randolph County home.
The Star Press reports that the Supreme Court has set a Dec. 7 hearing on the case.
A county judge and the state appeals court have rejected attempts to have his statements to detectives thrown because was questioned without a defense lawyer.
The appeals court ruled Hartman told detectives he wanted to speak with them after being told about a search warrant for his parents' home.
