MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - An eastern Indiana nurse is facing charges alleging that she failed to give a nursing home patient who later died daily injections of medication that prevents blood clots.

Fifty-two-year-old Mary Jane Bell of New Castle was charged this week with interference with medical services, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum one-year jail term.

The Star Press reports that Bell was released from the Henry County Jail after posting bond.

Prosecutors allege that over the course of six days in November she allegedly failed to inject an 84-year-old patient at Hickory Creek nursing home with medication to combat deep vein thrombosis.

The woman was hospitalized Nov. 16 with a swollen lower left leg. She died Dec. 6 after being transferred to hospice care due to her deteriorating condition.
