WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the man taken into custody early Wednesday morning following a series of incidents at an apartment complex near West Lafayette.
Tyler Davis was arrested. The 21 year old is facing preliminary charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of an altered handgun, and criminal mischief.
At around 1:15 a.m., deputies were called to Willowbrook West apartments after receiving reports of a person vandalizing cars. The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office said at least three cars were vandalized.
Around an hour later, in what appears to be an unrelated incident, Lt. Daniel McGrew said deputies heard multiple shots fired nearby.
Resident George Garrett went outside after he saw multiple law enforcement vehicles in the parking lot.
"It looked like they were arresting a couple people. Then we heard them tell someone to get back in the apartment," he said.
The Tippecanoe Co. Sheriff's Office would only confirm that one person was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
Lt. McGrew suggests if you are ever in a situation where shots are fired, be observant, don't try to intervene and call 911 immediately.
