TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - One of the men convicted of murdering a Lafayette man was sentenced to 80 years in prison Tuesday for his role in the homicide.
In November of 2012, 21-year-old Darren Englert was found guilty on six of nine charges filed against him in the July 2011 homicide of 26-year-old Jeremy Gibson.
Gibson’s body was found buried in a field on County Road 500 North in July of 2011. Three people were identified as suspects (25-year-old Antonio Williams, 20-year-old Carolann Clear and Englert) and were brought in and charged with his murder.
You can learn about the investigation and the details from the night of the murder in our original story.
As for the other two suspects? In February of 2012, Gibson’s girlfriend, Clear, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and fraud. On Jan. 18 she was sentenced to 44 years in prison for her involvement in Gibson’s death.
Williams was being held in the Miami Correctional Facility when he made an unsuccessful suicide attempt in late October of 2011. According to Deputy Coroner John Boyer, Williams overdosed on methadone, which led to a series of complications that resulted in Williams’ death on Jan. 16, 2012.
