STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A Mentone, Indiana man is out on bond after he allegedly molested a 4-year-old child inside a restroom at the Potawatomi Inn on the grounds of Pokagon State Park.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the hotel at approximately 4:14 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013. When they arrived, they found that several adults at the hotel had detained the suspect.
The initial investigation indicated that David John Elleneberger, 25, approached the victim inside a restroom located near the hotel's indoor swimming pool and that's where the molestation allegedly took place.
The child and his family were vacationing at the park from another state and did not know Elleneberger according to investigators.
Elleneberger was taken to the Sheriff's office where he was interviewed by detectives. During the interviews, Elleneberger confessed to the molestation.
Elleneberger was arraigned in court Monday afternoon and charged with a Class A Felony Count of Child Molestation. He was able to post the $100,000 bond and was released from custody.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division assisted with the investigation.
Elleneberger's name does not appear on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry.
