BENTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Benton County inmate who escaped from jail Friday is thought to be in Michigan or Kentucky.

Benton County Sheriff Butch Pritchett said 34-year-old Benjamin Schwartz escaped the jail while mowing the yard.

After questioning Schwartz' wife, deputies believe he is hiding out in a nearby state.

Sheriff Pritchett said authorities in Kentucky and Michigan have been notified of the situation.

He said deputies have a description and license number for the vehicle that an accomplice used to help Schwartz get away.
