LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - At approximately 12:32 a.m. Monday, Lafayette police were called to a reported robbery in the parking of Walmart on State Road 26 East.
The victim claimed a man with a gun demanded to be driven to a nearby ATM and where he ordered the victim withdraw money. After the victim complied with the request, the suspect then demanded to be driven back to Walmart. Police said the suspect got out of the car and ran away.
Police said the victim was able to give officers a detailed description of the suspect. While searching nearby businesses along State Road 26, two officers located a man in the Meijer parking lot who matched the description. The victim positively identified the man. The suspect was identified as Michael E. Brown, 35, of Lafayette. He was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail. Brown faces charges of robbery, theft and intimidation.
Police were also called to the scene of an attempted robbery at the Circle K off State Road 26 in Lafayette. That investigation continues. It's unclear at this time if the two incidents are related.
