ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - According to Adams County Sheriff Shane Rekeweg, several people have been arrested in connection with attacks on members of the Amish community that took place in the rural Berne area on Monday.

According to a press release issued Wednesday morning, the arrests were made as the result of information provided by the public and help from the Berne Police Department.

Sheriff Rekeweg notified the media about the attacks on Tuesday.  He indicated that the attackers wore masks to conceal their identities and were last seen driving a light gray or light green station wagon type vehicle similar to a Chevy HHR or PT Cruiser.

The vehicle had damage to the driver side rear door and the right side passenger rear quarter panel.

Sheriff Rekeweg did not provide details regarding how many people were attacked and what kind of injuries, if any they sustained.  The news release also did not indicate if the number of attackers was known.

More information about the arrests and the investigation will be released shortly according to Sheriff Rekeweg.

Authorities are still asking anyone with information regarding the attacks to contact the
