AMERICUS, Ind. (WLFI) - An Americus man was arrested Monday in what Tippecanoe County dispatchers said was a “dangerous” situation.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Major Charlie Williams says 33-year-old Scott Hughes was arrested on possible charges of battery by means of strangulation, domestic battery in the presence of a child, criminal deviate conduct by force, and criminal confinement.

The female victim involved went to the Tipp. Co. Sheriff's Office Monday at 6:30 a.m. to report the incident.

Later that morning, officers went to the home (located on 7575 State Road 25), and Hughes wouldn't come out.

However, a deputy on the scene at the time specializes in hostage negotiations. Williams says after a standoff, Hughes eventually came out of the home without incident.

Williams says dispatchers told News 18 it was “dangerous” because of this standoff.

Here is our original story on this incident.
