LOGANSPORT, Ind (WLFI) - A Cass County man has admitted he killed his grandmother.

In December 2007, Mary Gene Groves was found dead inside her the Stoney Pike Mobile Home Park. Authorities said the 84-year-old woman had been strangled and stabbed.

Logansport Police said her grandson, 32-year-old Rex Kendray Groves, surrendered to police the day after Mary Gene Groves' death.

The case was scheduled for trial next month. Instead, Rex Groves entered a plea agreement.

He pleaded guilty but mentally ill to the murder of Mary Gene Groves.

Cass County Prosecutor Kevin Enyeart said the plea agreement calls for a sentence of 46 years in prison, followed by four years probation.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 21 in Cass Superior Court II.
