ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Police say a 78-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash while she was apparently walking home from a rural church in central Indiana.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department says Anita Wernsing was hit Sunday evening by a vehicle on Indiana 267 a few miles west of Zionsville. Police say Wernsing was leaving Mount Tabor Primitive Church and believe she was heading to her home across the road from the church.
Police were called after Wernsing was found about 100 yards from the church. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the vehicle that hit Wernsing apparently ran off the road then continued northbound without stopping. Investigators were checking vehicle parts found at the crash scene in hopes of finding identifying information.
