72 arrested, 99 charged at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (WISH) - The Indiana Excise Police arrested 72 people and charged 99 people at the University of Notre Dame this weekend. These arrests are up from five people arrested on nine charges during Notre Dame's home football game against Purdue on Sept. 8.

Officers arrested 41 people on 53 charges during a tailgate before the Notre Dame vs. Michigan game.

Police arrested 45 minors for illegal consumption or possession of alcohol. Eight of those arrested were les than 18 years old. Furthermore, six minors were also arrested for possession of a fake ID.

Two were arrested for public intoxication, two for resisting law enforcement, and one was arrested on a drug related charge.

One juvenile was placed under arrest for possession of tobacco and 38 individuals were arrested or cited on a variety of other charges. Charges included disorderly conduct, false informing, false government ID, and various traffic violations.

A juvenile girl was arrested during the tailgate after falling in front of officer. The girl had a BAC of .20 and was later released to her father.

A juvenile boy ran form police when they questioned a group of people in the tailgating lots. The boy had a BAC of .07. He was cited and released to his mother. However his mother was cited for providing alcohol to a minor.

One person was arrested after giving officers a fake Pennsylvania ID. He is facing charges of illegal consumption after he was found to have a BAC of .16.

Indiana State Excise Police officers were working in Notre Dame, Ind., this weekend as part of the Intensified College Enforcement, or ICE, initiative. The new program aims to reduce underage access to and use of alcohol at six college campuses: Ball State University, Butler University, Indiana University, Indiana State University, the University of Notre Dame and Purdue University.
