TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A man and woman from western Indiana have been sentenced to federal prison on charges they kidnapped a 4-year-old boy from his mother last summer.

The U.S. attorney's office says 25-year-old Nicholas Runyon was sentenced to 20 years this week in federal court in Terre Haute and 29-year-old April Bell received a 15-year term. Both had previously pleaded guilty to kidnapping.

Authorities say the pair took the boy from his home in Terre Haute on July 26, 2011, under the pretense of taking him to a birthday party for another child. Court documents say they took the boy into Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky, where they were caught two days later with the unharmed child. Authorities say the boy's head had been shaved in an effort to hide his identity.
