County passes measure opposing gun controls

BROOKVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southeastern Indiana county's commissioners have unanimously approved a measure opposing all federal gun control laws.

Franklin County's ordinance passed Tuesday says all federal laws in violation of the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment are invalid in the county and won't be enforced.

County Commissioner Tom Wilson tells the Connersville News-Examiner he "doesn't really know how much teeth" the county's "Second Amendment Preservation Act" has, but that it's time for the commissioners to express their feelings on gun control laws.

President Barack Obama recently issued 23 executive orders on gun control, but those only apply to the federal government.

Obama has asked Congress to pass measures requiring background checks for all gun buyers and banning new assault weapons in the wake of December's massacre at a Connecticut elementary school.
