MOUNT VERNON, Ind. (AP) - A fire chief in southwestern Indiana says three people have died from an overnight house fire.
Mount Vernon fire chief Wes Dixon tells WFIE-TV that an adult, a teenager and a child were killed in the fire that broke out about 12:30 a.m. Friday. Dixon says five other people were inside the house, with two of them being taken to a hospital.
Firefighters reported that flames were coming from the roof by the time they arrived at the two-story house in the Ohio River city about 20 miles west of Evansville.
Witness Larry Schakel says adults were shouting that children were still inside as firefighters worked to get inside.
