INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar may not be campaigning for either man looking to replace him in the Senate, but he is still supporting at least one other Hoosier Republican.
WISH-TV reported Thursday that Lugar attended a fundraiser for Attorney General Greg Zoeller last week at Indianapolis' Conrad Hotel.
The appearance by Lugar is a stark reminder of his refusal to campaign for Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock. Mourdock unseated Lugar in May's Republican primary. Since then, Mourdock and Democratic Senate candidate Joe Donnelly have battled to win over Lugar supporters in central Indiana.
A Lugar spokesman refuted a mailer earlier this week from conservative lawyer Jim Bopp stating Lugar's "torch has been passed" to Mourdock.
