SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - The Shelbyville-Shelby County Animal Shelter will be able to find dozens of animals new homes after two generous gifts this holiday season, 24-Hour News 8 news partner the Shelbyville News reports .
An anonymous donor’s gift will cover adoption fees for about 40 animals, shelter officials said, and another donor’s gift will provide for about 10 more adoptions.
Adoption fees at the shelter are typically $83 for dogs, $63 for female cats and $43 for male cats for unaltered animals. Those fees include spay or neuter procedures and rabies vaccines, along with microchipping for dogs. For those animals already spayed or neutered, the adoption fee is $30 for dogs, $15 for cats.
Chris Browder, administrative assistant at the shelter, said news of the gifts had spurred a wave of adoptions and had prompted others to give toward free adoptions, too.
"It has been phenominal and wonderful. There is nothing worse than being full for Christmas,” she said.
