SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A 19-year-old woman from China who attends Saint Mary's College in South Bend was killed while riding a bicycle when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle.

The South Bend Tribune reports that St. Joseph County police say 19-year-old Ziqi Zhang rode in front of a Michigan woman who had a green light at an intersection when the accident occurred Thursday night. It happened near the entrance of Saint Mary's College.

Police said Zhang was not wearing a helmet and sustained serious head injuries. She died a short time later at an area hospital.

Saint Mary's and Notre Dame students are on fall break this week.

Zhang was from the Jiangsu Province in China and was seeking a dual degree in engineering and mathematics.
