WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - West Lafayette is turning common cooking oil into electricity and the city is asking for your help.
All you have to do is stop by City Hall and pick up a specially marked container. Fill it up with used cooking oil, fats and grease. Then, drop it off at the Recycling Center at 705 South River Road.
Roughly a gallon of oil can power a 40-watt light bulb for an entire day.
"There's a wide variety of grease that we get here, whether it's vegetable oils or animal fat, it really runs the gamut. We take it all and we're happy to receive it," said David Henderson, Utility Director.
