TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Looking for a way to save on gas this week? CityBus can help.

This Thursday, CityBus will provide free transportation all day in honor of Dump the Pump Day.

CityBus officials said the national average savings of using public transit instead of owning a car is $9,880 a year.

"Dump the Pump Day is all about the positive benefits of leaving your car at home and using CityBus instead," said Tonya Agnew, CityBus manager of development.

"If you're already a daily rider, this free day is a thank-you," Agnew said. "If you usually drive a car for your daily commute, we invite you to take a free ride on Dump the Pump day to experience the full benefits of using CityBus.

If you want to take advantage of this free day of riding but you're not sure what route to use, head to the CityBus website or call 765-742-RIDE.

Travel training is available to help new riders learn out to use CityBus.

Dump the Pump is a nationwide campaign coordinated by the American Public Transportation Association. Many cities across the U.S. are participating this year.

The mission of CityBus is to be a proactive community partner, striving to improve the community's quality of life by operating safe, reliable and environmentally friendly transit services, by partnering in local economic development and sustainable development activities, and by providing excellent customer service and efficient, convenient access to destinations throughout Lafayette and West Lafayette.
