LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) was recognized by Donaldson Filtration out of Rennselaer for its efforts to help other companies attain zero landfill status.

Since 2004, SIA found ways to reduce, recycle and reuse materials that would otherwise be tossed out as trash.

The people at Donaldson said they went from just recycling soda cans to saving thousands of dollars thanks the model set by SIA.

"There's a lot of waste that goes into our landfills. We used to send to the the landfill quite often. Now we barely send anything to the landfill. Occasionally there might me something, but for the most part, It's recycled or taken out and used for some other purpose," said Donaldson Filtration Customer Service Manager Bob Konkel.

Donaldson recycled more than 400,000 pounds of material in the the last year alone. Since 2004, SIA has saved more than $10 million through its recycling program.
