TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - New policies for lowering of the Oakdale Dam in times of extreme drought may be around the corner.
The Shafer and Freeman Lakes Environmental Conservation Corporation (SFLECC) is urging better communication with NIPSCO as well as the local community and federal agencies.
SFLECC executive director Daryl Johns said there are established policies and guidelines that cover extreme flood conditions but not extreme drought conditions.
NIPSCO estimated that Lake Freeman would drop by at least 2 feet after increasing flow to the Tippecanoe River earlier this summer.
