Making an indoor compost

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Sean Rock from the Tippecanoe Soil and Water Conservation District joins WLFI in the studio to talk about how an indoor compost is made.

Here's a list of items that CAN be vermicomposted:

  • Grass clippings
  • Eggshells
  • Hair
  • Leaves
  • Shredded newspaper and paper towels
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Bread products
  • Wood chips
  • Sawdust
  • Wood ash
  • Feathers

Here's a list of items that should NOT be composted

  • Charcoal
  • Meat and bones
  • Grease, fats, and oils
  • Dairy products
  • Human or pet feces
  • Diseased plants
  • Waxed paper
  • Treated wood products
  • Plastics
  • Metals
  • Invasive plants and weeds
  • Cat litter
  • Treated paper, such as magazine pages
