WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Water Quality Educator Don Emmert explains how anyone can learn more about the soil and water quality in their own backyards.

He explained how homeowners can find out about the types of soil in their own backyards, as well as ways to improve the animals and plants a backyard is able to host.

You can visit their website at http://www.tippecanoecountyswcd.org .

You can also visit http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/app/WebSoilSurvey.aspx to see surveys of soil conditions anywhere in the U.S. Once you have found the area you want information on, use the Area of Interest tool (the button contains a red rectangle with the letters AOI) to select the area. You can then view the other tabs, such as Soil Map or Soil Data Explorer, to receive more information.
