LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue students are doing their part to get the Lafayette area thinking green.

John Townsend and Taizhi Tan from the Boiler Green Initiative join us in the studio to tell us about the "Pay As You Throw" initiative for garbage collection.

This initiative, already successful in Bloomington, IN and East Lansing, MI, would change garbage collection to a fee system similar to other utilities, in which people would pay only for the garbage they actually throw away, instead of paying a set fee regardless of how much garbage they dispose of.

This is meant to encourage recycling.

To find out about recycling locations around Lafayette, check out WLFI's Interactive Recycle Map sponsored by Lilly.
