LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - This spring Lafayette will be home to nearly one hundred new trees.
The Lafayette Tree Fund accepted $20,000 to plant trees in Lafayette.
Alcoa and Tipmont REMC each provided $10,000 grants to the group.
On May 9 trees will be planted along Twyckenham Blvd. starting at 9th Street.
Vice President of the Lafayette Tree Fund Rob Paul says interest in greening Lafayette has grown in recent years.
"Efforts are really improving. Last year for Arbor Day we had 127 volunteers that came out. We're expecting that number or even larger so within the community the interest in the Lafayette Tree Fund, planting tress, and the environment is becoming more significant," said Paul.
Paul says volunteers have been planting trees in Lafayette since
1993 and will plant their 1000th tree this Arbor Day.
