LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Subaru of Indiana plant is now part of the Indiana
Environmental Stewardship Program. IDEM recognized SIA for
its green initiatives this afternoon. To earn the membership,
SIA replaced its solvent-based paint top-coat with a water-based
top coat. That will help reduce more than 200,000 pounds of
VOCs annually. VOCs are gases or vapors that can contribute
to poor air quality. IDEM Commissioner Tom Easterly presented
SIA Senior Vice President Tom Easterday a plaque and a flag.
"The Environmental Stewardship Program is actually a program
that the governor and I really like. It's for the best of the
best companies that go beyond their environmental responsibilities
and do other things for the environment that help all of us," said
Easterly.
"Thank you very much for honoring us with admission into the
Environmental Stewardship Program. I know as you pointed out
that the program is reserved for an elite group of companies in
Indiana and we are proud to be a part of that elite group," said
Easterday.
SIA also maintains a zero landfill status, and is now one of
only 45 companies in Indiana included in IDEM's Stewardship
program.
