INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLFI) - The Hoosier Environmental Council is launching a green video contest with cash prizes ranging from $200 to $500 for the top four winners from Indiana. Every participant, whether from Indiana or not, will recieve a free t-shirt & decal.

The contest, called Green Energy NOW!, is meant to host videos where contestants explain how they are fighting the effects of climate change in their daily lives and why they support green energy and climate legislation.

Participants are encouraged – in three minutes or less – to tell their story, whether it’s through small changes like choosing to walk instead of drive, or by bolder steps, like speaking out about green initiatives or climate change on local, state, or national levels.

The creators of the contest are hoping for videos that are fun, creative, and non-traditional.

“In our fast-paced world where people are able to capture videos on their cameras, cell phones and laptops, this is a new way for Hoosiers to document and share their support for green energy and take this discussion to the next level,” said Jesse Kharbanda, HEC executive director. “With the landmark climate bill – the American Clean Energy and Security Act – moving forward in Washington, now is the time to shine a spotlight on the efforts Hoosiers put forth every day to positively impact our environment.”

Contestants can make a video with a video-camera, webcam, cell phone, or an image slideshow with music/voiceover. Cash prizes will be awarded for the four videos that are the funniest, most creatively produced, best-researched, and overall favorite. Participants must be Indiana residents to receive prizes, but anyone can submit videos. Videos can be uploaded to www.youtube.com/group/GreenEnergyNOW, and contestants can find out more about the guidelines at the Hoosier Environmental Council's website.

The deadline for the contest is August 24.
