LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Historic Lafayette Farmers Market's season opening is May 3.

This is the 173rd season for the Farmers market in downtown Lafayette. The Market returns to downtown on Saturday, May 5. It returns for the 7th season on Purdue's campus on Thursday, May 3.

"Working with the Office of University Sustainability we have identified a new location and time for the Purdue Market,” said Erin Nelson, Program Manager with Greater Lafayette Commerce. “This gives us another avenue to get fresh, healthy foods directly from the farm to your table, or lunch box.  ...we hope that students, faculty and guests will join us every Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Centennial Mall.”

Short-term, 20-minute parking will be available during the market on Oval Drive. Additional parking is available in the Grant Street parking garage.

“Our intention is to make the Farmers’ Market a destination on campus with a vibrant atmosphere that students, faculty, and staff can walk to on their lunch break or between classes,” said Michael Gulich, director of university sustainability.

The Farmers Market downtown will be on 5th Street between main and Columbia on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Over 50 vendors will be downtown with organic, locally-grown produce and vegetables, baked goods, dairy, eggs and handcrafted items.

Sharon McKnight will be performing downtown as well during this time.

The Farmers Market season runs every Saturday downtown and on Thursday afternoon from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Centennial Mall, south of the Bell Tower, on Purdue's campus through October 27.
