WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - At this year's Parade of Homes, green was in style. Thanks to increased interest in the environment, green homes are in more demand than ever before.

The Rasmus family is looking for a new home with a little more space to spread out. Joel Rasmus said going green in their new home is something the family is definitely looking to do.

"Green efforts are good, because it's great for all ecology. But too, quite honestly, more important for us, it probably means a little bit lower energy bills in the future," said Joel Rasmus.

Green Goose Homes president Grant Giese said the Rasmus family isn't alone in their quest for a more energy efficient home. Green homes are in such high demand he said the newest home he has on the market in the Arbor Chase neighborhood will most likely sell before the end of the weekend.

"At first they're kind of wowed by the pretty stuff. And I think once they start hearing about the green features as well and that they're able to save money, you get some people that are extremely excited about it," said Giese.

Giese's energy efficient home includes separate, temperature-control zones, recycled materials and energy efficient appliances. All of these features will cut energy bills by hundreds of dollars per year. He said many assume a green home will cost them a lot of green. But he said a green home may be easier to own than ever before.

"This home is priced very similarly to all the other homes in the neighborhood. Some that are energy efficient, some that are not," said Giese.

The Green Goose energy efficient home is on the parade of homes found in the Arbor Chase Neighborhood in West Lafayette.
