Get a chance to learn about Greater Lafayette's greener side

GREATER LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Whether you’re new to the area or you’ve lived in Greater Lafayette all your life, a free tour of the area’s greener side is sure to give you ideas on how to live a greener life.

You can take part in a free guided walking tour, guided bus tour, or take a self-guided tour of green activities in the city Saturday Oct. 20.

The guided bus tour begins at 9 a.m. at the Tapawingo Park parking lot off of Brown Street in West Lafayette and makes stops at the following sites:

• Alcoa – pervious pavement, rain gardens

• Oscar Winski – E-waste recycling

• Tippecanoe County Solid Waste Management District – household hazardous waste recycling and disposal

• West Lafayette Wastewater Treatment Facility – digester

The guided walking tour begins at 11 a.m. at the Lafayette Farmers Market on the southwest corner of Fifth and Main streets and makes stops at the following sites:

• Lafayette Farmers Market – local organic food and services

• City of Lafayette – LEED Building

• Grateful Heart Gallery and Gifts – recycled art and a clear-blue-green business

• City Food Co-Op – local organic food and cooperative

• Virtuous Cycles – rain barrels

• North Street Neighborhood – pervious pavement, rain gardens, tree planters and native vegetation

For self-guided tours, the bus sites are open 9 to 11 a.m. and the walking tour sites are open 11 to 1 a.m.

You can pre-register to be guaranteed a spot at the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation ’s website.
