HOBART, Ind. (AP) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is getting $250,000 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to restore about 60 acres of a northwestern Indiana lake.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced the funding for Hobart's Lake George on Thursday as part of $1 million in total funding for the multi-state Calumet region. The project is intended to remove dense invasive plant species from the lake a few miles south of Gary.
The Interior Department says the money will support the Millennium Reserve's Calumet Core initiative to restore 140,000 acres and provide recreational opportunities in the region.
