LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - One of the Lafayette area’s favorite parks is going green and healthy with some new additions to its transportation force.
According to Lafayette Parks and Recreation Superintendent Ted Bumbleburg, Columbian Park Maintenance has recently taken on two 3-wheeled bicycles.
It’s part of an effort to cut down on gas usage, ramp up safety by decreasing motorized traffic within the park and boost healthy habits among workers.
The two bicycles will be used by maintenance employees working in the park.
Bumbleburg says in the past maintenance personnel would drive either a pickup truck or Gator with tools to make repairs, but now, employees can just grab their tools and quickly bike over to their work area.
The Parks and Recreation Department says this should save a few hundred dollars per year between gas and upkeep of motorized vehicles.
