LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Water shortages could hit 36 states in the U.S. by 2013, but a nationwide effort is underway to help consumers save money and use less water.
A mobile bathroom on wheels is touring the nation. It is making more than 400 stops in all as part of the Responsible Bathroom Tour. Representatives from American Standard were in Lafayette Monday to help members of the public calculate how much money they can save by switching to more efficient equipment.
"Eventually somebody will be changing,” said Tour Ambassador Greg Irish. “They may not be changing immediately, when they are down the line. If customers have a choice between a high flow and a low flow. Why not choose the low flow."
Irish said the goal of the tour is to help save 2 billion gallons of water this year by helping replace worn out fixtures with new, more efficient ones.
Greg Irish said he has had a wide variety of questions during his trek east of the Mississippi.
"'Do you have the savings available?' "I think what really impresses them the best is when they see all the actual items work. Then you can have savings without sacrifice."
