WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - This is the week to look at ways to keep from flushing money away.

West Lafayette Wastewater Utility Director David Henderson said simple things like fixing a leaky facet could save you money.

To see if your toilet is leaking, Henderson suggested dropping food coloring in the tank of the toilet. If it comes out in the bowl, you may have a leak and need a new flapper. He said saving water also means saving energy.

"A lot of energy is being use to pump this water. Pump it to the home and away from the home so it's also an energy conservation as well as a water conservation," Henderson said.

This is National Fix a Leak Week.
