WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - It started innocently enough, a group of girlfriends relaxing in the sun one summer day.

"When it started we were just swimming in a lake and had our noodles, our swim noodles, and decided that we might try to do a triathlon," Tri Noodle Donna Tudor said.

And so, the Tri Noodles were created.

"Very informal. Just a group of seven friends who wanted to try something different," Tri Noodle Karen Cooperider said.

They trained all summer for a sprint triathlon in Indianapolis. When the race day came they were amazed at how much fun and "easy" it was. So, they decided to go bigger next time.

"The goal at the end of this all was not just to do the Indianapolis Triathlon but to put something on locally that people who might be intimidated by an event where there are thousands would be comfortable in their hometown with friends," Cooperider said.

On Saturday, they hosted nearly 50 local women for the inaugural Tri Noodle Sprint Triathlon. The women said it has been a fulfilling journey towards better health, strength, and friendship.

"Just get out there and do it. I just really feel like so many woman are just getting out there and they're just so excited," Tudor said.
