GREATER LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Breast Cancer Awareness Month is full of pink products and events to highlight the need for cancer research. It’s also a month to honor women who have won their fight against cancer, and those who have lost.
Here are events from around the area you can attend to get in on Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Cut-A-Thon: Sunday Oct. 7 – From 5 to 8 p.m. at SportClips (100 S. Creasy Lane), you can get a free haircut with a $10 cash donations. All donations go to the YWCA’s Women’s Cancer Program, and all donations will be matched by Summit Financial Group of Indiana.
Purdue Breast Cancer Prevention Symposium: Oct. 10-12 – A global symposium will join the research worlds of public health, medicine and advocacy with research scientists in biology, engineering, nanotechnology and nutrition to discuss models for primary prevention of breast cancer.
Another Cut-A-Thon: Oct. 10 – From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., head to Angela's Images salon (900 Kossuth St., Suite 7) for a $10 haircut. All proceeds will go to Look Good, Feel Better, a nonprofit organization that helps more than 50,000 women who are undergoing cancer cope with devastating appearance-related side effects of cancer treatments.
Ultimate Pink Party: Oct. 19 – Unity Healthcare and Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health are sponsoring the party, with all proceeds benefiting the YWCA Women’s Cancer Program. Visit the party’s website for details.
Bras Across the Wabash: Oct. 30 – Starting at 6 p.m., you can join Shamus and Annie from K105 to string bras across the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge to support awareness. New bras are donated to the YWCA Women’s Cancer Program for patients. K105 and the YWCA will have drop boxes for bra donations the entire month of October.
Breast Cancer Support Group Meeting: Oct. 30 – Head to the YWCA to take part. Call 765-742-0075 for more information.
Community Barn Dance and Wagon Rides: Nov. 4 – From 5 to 8 p.m. head to the Wea Creek Orchard (5618 S. 200 East in Lafayette) for a DJ, dancing, wagon rides, inflatable bounce house, refreshments, food, family photographs and a makeup artist. It's just $5 per individual or $12 for a family. Head to Purdue's breast cancer page for more information.
