Student visits Nicaragua for a life-changing experience

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Exponent) - A Purdue student said delivering a baby from a 15-year-old girl during a trip in Nicaragua changed her life.

Lydia Lochamire, a junior in the College of Health and Human Sciences, will be visiting Nicaragua for the third time this summer. The three-week trip consists of mission work, helping the community and a few medical assistant cases. She found herself really liking the hospital environment and realized her passion in high school during a health occupations education program.

“Half the day I would work in a hospital or other medical-type environments,” Lochamire said. “I even worked in a jail following a nurse around. During senior year, I got my certified nursing assistant certification.”
